HP DeskWriter ~ the original and first Mac serial / AppleTalk inkjet printer made by HP in 1989. Model 2279A. Features Laser-quality output (300 dpi resolution) in a convenient, affordable desktop design. Designed exclusively for the Macintosh computer. It is fast and whisper quiet. Best mode is 300 x 300 dpi and 1ppm, Faster mode is 150 x 150 dpi at 2ppm. For Macintosh Plus or newer.
Some documentation is available from hp museum.net and drivers are available from hp.com. As a general rule, DeskJet and DeskWriter printers prior to USB shared the same model numbers, DeskJets use a parallel connection and DeskWriters use a serial connection.
I have several early DeskWriter printers that are/will be available. I managed to find one good black cartridge amongst these and used it to test numerous printers. No cartridges will be included, but can still be found and refilled. The black cartridge is HP 26 (51626A).
There were two DeskWriter Printers in stock. Both look great, have been cleaned and have successfully printed several pages in black with a borrowed cartridge. Power adapter/supply and Serial printer cable are included. Remaining printer is missing the smoked plastic paper tray cover, but works fine without it. The last three pictures show the printer you will receive.
Update – I found a manual for which will be included.
Many DeskWriter printers are usable on the Apple IIGS with the Harmonie Printer drivers.
