IIe Key Caps (Black Letters – Brown Bottom)
Description
These key caps are found on most of the Beige Apple IIe’s with most of the switch types. They have Black letters on a brown keycap and and the same color bottom underneath. Some of these keycaps will NOT work on other IIe keyboards. You must investigate what type of switches are on your keyboard! You can go back to the main IIe Key Cap page if these caps don’t look like yours.
The Reset and Caps Lock keys are different depending on if you have Alps long stem switches or not! They definitely won’t sit properly on other switches. The Alps Caps Lock has an extended stem, and a recessed Reset stem. All others have a recessed Caps Lock and a level or extended Reset. See last photo.
Other differences in the keyboards are the switch placement of the Tab and Delete keys. They will use either offset mounts on both, or centered. A set with the offset will also have 3 mounts on the bottom of the Shift keys. Tab and Delete may also have 2 mounts – both offset. This is important! If you are missing the Tab, remove and inspect the Delete or visa versa. The wrong one of these will not fit on your keyboard at all.
Many of the caps came from a Quark set. The letters on top and the key cap all match the others, but the letter P for example will also say Print on the front of the key cap. Some shown in 3rd line. Note that this was never a complete key set replacement, but just a handful of keys. You may receive either cap depending on stock.
*We have had good luck getting broken stems out of the keycaps, so please don’t throw them away, but send them here so we can try to give them a new life.
