Logic Board Recapping & Repair – 68K Mac

We are now offering Logic Board recapping and REPAIR services for your Vintage Mac! The best time to do this is now, while your Mac is still working!

Please keep in mind that all boards are different and the condition and scope of the damage will vary. Honestly at this point, most of the boards we see need additional repairs in addition to recapping. If your caps are leaking, it is too late for just a recapping job to fix it.

Recapping choices:
$150 for aluminum caps (like the original, but rated for more hours)
$200 for Tantalum caps

Professional recapping includes:

• Removing old caps
• Ultrasonic cleaning
• Installing new caps
• Inspecting the board and advising/estimating additional repairs if needed.

There is NO GUARANTEE your board will work at this point. Just that it has been recapped. Leaking caps have already caused additional damage.

Troubleshooting, trace repair, chip lifting/replacement, and anything else beyond recapping is extra and will be estimated at the $75 per hour shop labor rate. This is also the rate for these same services performed on a board that was recapped elsewhere – note that we may recap it anyway at our discretion if we feel that may be part of the issue. Even with an estimate, some issues will not be known until other ones are fixed. Your approval will be needed before any additional repairs are performed. It can take quite a bit of real time to RESTORE your board back to new looking when we are finished.

Repair estimate – Repair estimate – An initial non-refundable $75 diagnostic fee is charged to determine the extent of the repairs needed and provide an accurate estimate for repairs.  If the repair estimate is approved, the $75 diagnostic fee will be credited towards the total repair cost. If your capacitors have already started leaking, you should expect that your board also needs additional repairs and should request a repair estimate instead of just a regular recapping service. Contact us prior to purchasing anything to verify that we can fix your model (we need to have a working one in stock for comparison and testing purposes).

All Logic Board services are guaranteed for 6 months ONLY on the work that we performed.

Mail in customers – you pay the shipping to get the item(s) to us. They MUST be packaged well so they don’t arrive with additional damage. Return shipping will be added to your final invoice. If we don’t have your model of computer in stock, it may be necessary for you to ship your entire computer to us to ensure that we can test that your board is in good working condition before we ship it back to you. 

Please note: If sending the whole computer, there will be an additional $50 minimum (some models will be more) labor for careful disassembly/reassembly, repeat testing added to your final invoice along with shipping. Plastics are brittle in so many models now that we cannot guarantee no case/clip breakage.
