The Data Access Language (DAL) connectivity language and its supporting client and server software give desktop workstations high-level access to information on host data processing systems/ Using DAL, a desktop application (such as a spreadsheet or word processor) can request and update host data in a uniform manner, independent of variation in network technology, host system architecture, and database systems. DAL insulates the desktop applications from these concerns, providing improved interaction between personal processing on the desktop and organizational computing on the host system.
